The defect

Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain model year 2015 GEM EL, ES, E4, E4S, ELXD, E6, E6S, and E2 vehicles manufactured December 15, 2014, to August 25, 2015. The seat belts in the affected vehicles have retractor mechanisms that may fail, causing the seat belt to be stuck in one position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

The risk

If the seat belt does not retract or extend, the seat occupant may not be properly secured in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
