Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2007, 2009, and 2015 Dry Freight Van Trailers, equipped with rear impact guard gussets 59653 and 59654. These rear impact guard gussets increase the chances of injury in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 223, "Rear Impact Guards."

The rear impact guards may not be strong enough to prevent a vehicle from traveling under a trailer in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 223, "Rear Impact Guards."

As built, the trailers have tires that are more than 12 inches forward of the rear of the trailer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 224, "Rear Impact Protection."

The affected trailers are equipped with rear impact guards using gusset part numbers 40033/40034, 43191/43192, 63133/63134 or 67046/67047. The rear impact guards with these gussets do not meet federal standards for strength and energy absorption. As such, these trailers do not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 223, "Rear Impact Guards."
