Official summary
Situation: intermittently with the vehicle stationary during an auto stop/start event, the vehicle may completely shut down, particularly if the driver has moved the transmission control switch (tcs) to neutral (n). In these instances, a new ignition cycle must be performed to restart the engine. Upon engine restart, a 'transmission fault' message on the instrument cluster (ic) may be displayed in the instrument cluster combined with either an inability to pull away or failure to engage gear.
What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
