Where to find your VIN
The VIN is stamped on a plate at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side, printed on the driver’s door jamb sticker, and listed on the title, registration and insurance card. It never contains the letters I, O or Q.
What a VIN tells you
Positions 1–3 identify the manufacturer and country, positions 4–8 describe the model, body and engine, position 10 encodes the model year, and position 11 the assembly plant. The decoder on this page uses NHTSA’s public vPIC service — the same database recall eligibility checks rely on. For open-recall status on your specific vehicle, use the VIN lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
