Official summary

Some 2020 Escape front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles equipped with an 8F24 transmission may exhibit the transmission going into PARK uncommanded during a start/stop event or stay in neutral event with the engine off. There will also be an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P288B stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to various strategies within the PCM software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
