Official summary

Mercedes-Benz AG, the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain subject vehicles, the 48V battery control unit software might not meet current production specifications. In rare cases, the engine malfunction indicator lamp might not illuminate when a diagnostic fault condition is present. MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the 48V battery control unit software on affected vehicles. Affected customers will be notified via in-vehicle notification or First-Class letter to have the update performed on their vehicle.

What a TSB means. Technical service bulletins are repair guidance manufacturers send to dealers — they are not recalls, and repairs are not automatically free (warranty extensions are an exception worth checking). The full document is available via NHTSA’s vehicle lookup.
